Mobile Scaffold Inspection Checklist

Using scaffolding for construction sites poses many safety threats for employees. Fall, collapse, and overturn are some common hazards related to scaffolding. A mobile scaffolding inspection on a regular basis ensures that all scaffolds are safe to use and potential hazards are minimized.

Is the scaffold designed by a qualified professional?
Is the height of a scaffold supervised by a competent person?
Are the casters made of proper size?
Are the scaffolds capable of supporting at least four times of load intended?
Are the locking mechanisms working well?
Are the frames of scaffold braced and plumb?
Are all bracing connections secure?
Is the supporting surface smooth and leveled?
Are diagonal braces being used?
Is the width of each platform a minimum of 18 inches?
Are all platforms fully decked on all working levels?
Are all platform ends raised to a minimum of 6”?
Are there suitable ladders to access the platforms of scaffolds?
Is there a 12” overlap between wallboard support?
Are there guardrails to support workers where there is a risk of fall from 10’ or more height?
Are the guardrails sturdy enough to support 200lbs weight?
Are there sufficient screens, barricades or toe boards where there is a risk of objects falling from the platform?
Is the top rail between 38” to 45” with mid rail exactly in the centre of top rail and platform?
Are the scaffolds at least 10’ away from electric power lines?
Is the scaffold stacking more than four times the base width? Are they securely tied to prevent tripping?
Is there any worker riding the scaffold if his height is more than 2 times the minimum base width?
Are the scaffolds being locked when being used in a stationary position?
The workers are competent in working on scaffolds?
The scaffold can be moved with 5’ of the floor.
