Ladder Inspection Checklist

This checklist is based on HSE guidance for safe ladder use and helps evaluate the compliance to Work at Height Regulations. The inspection looks for sharp edges, damaged parts, missing or loose steps, rust or corrosion, or missing labels. These inspections should be conducted periodically or after a ladder has fallen or been repaired.

Are any feet missing or damaged?
Are any stiles twisted, dented, or bent?
Is the foot of the ladder making contact with the ground?
Are any tie rods missing?
Are any tie rods damaged?
Are rungs bent, cracked, or loose?
Is any rung missing?
Are there any loose rivets?
Are any of the welded joints cracked or damaged?
Are there any damaged stays?
Are locking mechanisms working properly?
Is any locking mechanism bent?
Are locking bars engaged?
Is the step ladder platform in good condition?
Are any steps fixing loose?
Is any slipper substance contaminating the steps?
