Hand tools and power tools inspection Checklist

As per OSHA guidelines, hand and power tools must be inspected for signs of misuse, damage and hazards. These inspections are scheduled daily, weekly or monthly as per the company's policy. These check for body casing and handles, defects in power cords, signs of wear and tear and faulty prongs. The defective tools are marked out of service and replaced or repaired immediately.

For only hand tools
Are there any visible cracks in jaws or handles?
Is the external part grease free and free of accumulation of foreign material?
Is there damage or crack in the handles?
Are any handles loose from the head of the hammer and other tools?
Are pliers, wrenches and other similar tools showing signs of wear and tear?
Are there any signs of excessive wear and tear on screwdrivers, chisels and other similar tools?
Do any tools have mushroomed heads?
Are cutting tools sharp?
Are hand tools in good condition?
For only power tools
Is there a leakage of fluid in any tools?
Are blades or bits cracked?
Are moving or rotating parts of tools guarded to prevent physical contact?
Is suitable PPE available to handle tools?
Is the tool exterior free from grease or oil accumulation?
Is the third prong of the electrical cord intact?
Is there visible damage to the power source of tools?
Are guards and shields required by OSHA available?
Is tool housing in good condition?
Are the tools double insulated?
Are power tools in good condition?
