Electrical Safety Checklist

An electrical safety checklist ensures a thorough examination of electrical systems at the construction site. It includes an inspection of electrical wirings, appliances, equipment and other components to ensure they meet the required safety standards.

Consumer mains
Voltage drop
Cable core identification
Carrying capacity at present
Wiring connection
Condition of aerial installation
Earthing
Are earthing conductors compliant?
Are there adequate connections, joints and terminations?
Are earth electrodes installed?
Is the main earthing conductor tagged?
Are equipotential bonding conductors available?
Is there adequate protection against external factors like UV light?
Is there a requirement for additional earthing of equipment?
When needed, is the conductive building material connected with earth?
Electrical safety
Installation type (commercial/domestic)
Any additions or alterations
Installation age
Estimated age of alteration
Electrical systems
What is the general condition of electrical equipment on the site?
Are installed downlights compliant?
Do the equipment have adequate fixing and support?
Is the equipment suitable for the environment it is being operated in?
Are there any loose wirings?
Are there adequate isolation devices where needed?
Is the equipment installation done as per manufacture guidelines?
Is there protection against hazardous parts?
Do all equipment have user manuals and operating instructions handy?
Are all equipment serviced regularly?
Exit checks
Are all the switchboards secure?
Are the MEN connections intact?
Is the circuit connection and mains restored to original state?
Are all the tools and equipment safely packed and returned to the vehicle?
Is the person in control informed of departure?
Has the person in charge suggested the changes to be made?
Is the general condition of electrical installation compliant?
Switchboards
Are all switchboards easily accessible and not in restricted areas?
Do all switchboards have insulators and enclosures and there is no contact with live parts?
Are they protected against the spread of fire?
Are the main connections intact?
Do the switchboards have inbuilt or installed protection devices?
Are the devices compliant for over current protection?
Are connecting devices compliant?
Are isolating devices compliant?
Is there enough protection against mechanical damage, UV rays and external factors?
Are wiring and switchgears securely connected?
Are all switchboards well marked?
Are there RCDs installed on circuits applicable?
Do the consumer mains have protection against over current?
Is there a provision for automatic supply disconnection in case of a fault?
Wiring Systems
Cable core identification
Current carrying capacity of conductors
Are cables terminated as per requirement?
Support and fixing done?
How is the overhead wiring in the system?
Checked cable installation in ceiling space near manhole etc?
Checked the protection of mechanical damage and other external influences?
Are wirings away from gas, water and solar systems?
